Educating the next generation of Wyoming climbers

Climbing camps for youth of all ability levels

Many people who grow up in Wyoming don’t get to experience the world class climbing in their own backyard. Our goal is to change that and give more local youth the chance to explore the vertical wonders of Wyoming and beyond.

What youth climbing programs do we offer?

Every summer we offer educational climbing camps for youth ages 10-18 across the state of Wyoming.  Students learn the fundamentals of climbing safety, movement and technique. They also learn to be better stewards of Wyoming’s wild places, practicing the principles of Leave No Trace as they explore the unique ecology of the places where they climb. Students also learn how to work together as a team and build each other up as they challenge themselves in a new and exciting way.

What’s included in the price of the camp?

Youth camp prices include all climbing lessons, instructional materials, and technical climbing equipment but do not include transportation to the climbing areas.

1) Lessons

Our main objective is for students to learn how to become safe, sustainable, and supportive climbers. Along these lines, our youth camp curriculum includes hands-on, experiential learning about the following topics and techniques:

  • Climbing safety, belay, and anchor systems
  • Top-rope and/or lead climbing techniques
  • Leave No Trace and “Beyond Leave No Trace” practices
  • Lessons on each climbing area’s geology, ecology, archaeology, and history
  • Climbing games and fun outdoor learning activities

2) Gear

No need to buy expensive climbing gear for our youth camps – we’ve got you covered! The price of the camp includes free gear rentals of all the essential climbing equipment students will need, including the following:

  • Climbing shoes
  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Belay device and locking carabiner

Other Logistics

All of our youth camps are day camps, so we do not provide any overnight accommodations for camp participants.  Also note that camp sessions usually run between six to seven hours, depending on the climbing area.
