Advanced Youth Climbing Camp
This educational climbing camp is open to students who have previously enrolled in Wyoming Mountain Guides’ youth climbing camps and/or have sufficiently demonstrated competency with fundamental climbing safety systems and traditional crack climbing techniques. Students will build off of these foundations as they are introduced to multipitch climbing systems and climb larger terrain. Compared to our regular climbing camp curriculum, more emphasis will be placed on the mental over the physical aspects of climbing, focusing in particular on technical systems, risk assessment, route planning, and decision making while climbing taller (albeit moderate) terrain. As such this camp is more suitable for youth in the 13-18 year old age range with relatively high levels of climbing fitness.

Transportation and logistics
Due to changes in our insurance policy we will no longer provide transportation for this camp. We will meet participants at Devils Tower each day of the camp for drop off and pickup.
Daily schedule
The daily schedule for advanced camps will depend on the objective for the day, but camp will typically start at 7am and run 6-7 hours per day.
Lessons and curriculum
This educational climbing camp includes hands-on lessons tailored to introductory youth climbers on the following topics:
- Climbing safety, belay, and anchor systems
- Trad climbing techniques
- Leave No Trace and “Beyond Leave No Trace” practices
- Lessons on each climbing area’s geology, ecology, archaeology, and history
- Climbing games and fun outdoor learning activities
Equipment
We provide all of the following technical climbing equipment at no extra cost:
- Climbing shoes
- Harness
- Helmet
- Belay device and locking carabiner
We do not provide food, water, backpacks, clothing, or hiking shoes for participants.
Signing up
We require a $150/participant deposit to reserve your spot in the camp. After reserving your spot you will receive a signup email with all of the necessary forms and logistical information for the camp along with an invoice for the remaining cost of the camp.
