Bouldering on the Ripper Point (V5) on Cedar Mountain near Cody

Overview:

Starting in the summer of 2026, we are offering several performance climbing camps for experienced youth climbers who want to push their outdoor climbing to the next level.  These programs are intended to serve the growing population of competitive and performance-oriented youth climbers in the US who want to build on the skills and fitness they’ve gained in indoor climbing gyms and challenge themselves outdoor climbing venues.  During these four day performance climbing camps, our professional rock guides provide expert instruction to help facilitate a safe and enjoyable gym-to-crag experience in world class climbing areas throughout the state of Wyoming.

Locations:

Each performance climbing camp will focus on a particular discipline of outdoor climbing to allow for participants to take a deep dive into the subject of their choice and learn as much as possible.  The primary focus of each camp differs based on location.  For dedicated boulderers we recommend our Cody-based performance camp based in the Cedar Mountain area, home to thousands of sandstone boulder problems in a shaded environment only a few minutes from the town of Cody.  Our Ten Sleep-based camp is best for lead climbers as they explore the steep dolomite walls in Ten Sleep Canyon, one of the west’s preeminent sport climbing destinations.  For those looking to learn trad and multipitch climbing skills, our Devils Tower camp is a great opportunity to climb some of the country’s best long cracks.

    Sessions and Dates:

Our Summer 2026 sessions are as follows:

    Cody Performance Bouldering Camp

      Rates and Payment

All of our performance camps cost $750 in total – that rate includes all camp fees, guiding, and equipment use.  We require a $250 non-refundable deposit to sign up.  The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the camp and is non-refundable if you cancel within two weeks of the camp.

      Schedule

Each camp’s daily schedule will differ slightly based on location, time of summer,  and forcasted temperatures, but generally we meet kids at 8am and climb until 4pm.

      Transportation:

Due to insurance restrictions we do not provide transportation to any camp participants.  Parents will need to drop off and pick up participants every day of camp.

      Curriculum:

Our performance youth climbing camp curriculum focuses on four main learning objectives: safety, sustainability, supportive behavior, and self-challenge.

      • Safety: participants will learn to manage bouldering, sport climbing, and trad climbing safety systems, with an emphasis on mitigating hazards and competently managing protection systems.  Our aim is for kids to gain a solid understanding of risk and be more safety-minded if they choose to climb outdoors in the future.
      • Sustainability: participants will learn how to be sustainable users of the resource and learn how to practice the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace in the wild.  We strongly believe in minimizing our impact on the environment and a great way to do this is to teach the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts the best practices of Leave No Trace.  We also complete at least one sustainability project during the camp, ranging from trash pickups to noxious weed pulls to erosion control.
      • Supportive behavior: participants will learn how to be supportive of each other throughout the camp.  Climbing is a demanding activity physically, mentally, and emotionally, and as such is a great way for kids to challenge themselves.  Climbing is necessarily a partner-based sport, so it’s a great opportunity for kids to learn how to work together as a team to stay safe and reach new heights together.  We work hard to create a safe space where all feel welcome and comfortable to push themselves in new ways.  Any deriding comments, bullying, and hate speech of any kind will not be tolerated.
      • Self-challenge: participants will be expected to challenge themselves in their climbing movement, technique, and strategy during the camp.  After an initial evaluation, climbers will set SMART goals with the intent of pushing through physical, mental, and emotional limits during the camp.  In addition, we help participants select a project route that they will work and hopefully send by the end of the camp.

      Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is this a day or overnight camp?

A: This is strictly a day camp with 8 hours of programming per day.  We can offer suggestions for camping or other overnight stay options.

Q: My child has experience climbing indoors but not outdoors.  Is this camp appropriate for those without outdoor climbing experience?

A:  Absolutely!  No outdoor climbing experience is required for this camp.

Q: My child is an active climber but does not compete in any climbing competitions.   Is this camp appropriate for non-competitive climbers?

A:  Yes our performance climbing camps are appropriate for any experienced youth climbers as long as they want to challenge themselves.

Q: Will kids be allowed to lead climb in these camps?

A: The Ten Sleep sport climbing camp is the only performance camp that will allow leading.  The Cody camp is strictly focused on bouldering and trad climbs at the Devils Tower camp will all be lead by our guides.  All participants in our sport climbing camp will be thoroughly evaluated before leading.  Leading isn’t required, however, and isn’t necessary for the goals of the camp.
