Your Source for Ice Climbing Rental Equipment in Cody, Wyoming

Mixed climbing with CAMP tools and crampons in the Clarks Fork Valley near Cody

We offer a full range of technical ice climbing equipment rentals out of our home base in Cody, Wyoming.  A significant barrier of entry into the sport of ice climbing is the cost of purchasing equipment, so we’re intent on making this expensive equipment more widely available to people wanting to try ice climbing, regardless of whether they’re guided by us or not.  We do not charge our guests to use this equipment, but for the public we rent individual pieces of equipment as well as bundled packages.  If you need to rent ice climbing gear in the Cody area, we’ve got you covered!

What ice climbing gear do we rent?

The CAMP X-Dream is the daily driver for our ice climbing guides and makes up the bulk of our rental fleet for guests.  It excels as a technical tool due to its lightness and exceptionally comfortable handle, allowing for delicate climbing on featured steep ice and reducing pump on long, challenging pitches.  It outperforms any other tool we’ve used on hard mixed terrain (not surprising since people are still winning World Cup competitions with X-Dreams).  We also find the X-Dream has a very intuitive swing for new ice climbers on lower angle ice.

CAMP makes a great lineup of specialized ice climbing crampons that perform exceptionally well on a wide variety of terrain, three of which we rent to the public.  The Blade Runner is best suited to steep waterfall ice as it has a thin front point and four aggressive secondary points that offer unmatched stability on hard ice.  The Alpinist Tech is the best all around alpine and mixed crampon in the lineup, comparable to the old Petzl Dart with one fixed front point and an additional shovel point to provide extra stability on both ice and snow.  The Alpinist Pro is great for those looking for a dual point crampon for lower-angle waterfall and alpine ice.

  • Boots: Assortment of La Sportiva, Scarpa, and Asolo full-shank mountaineering boots

We rent a full range of single mountaineering boots sizes 38-47 that take fully automatic crampons.

We rent two sizes (XS-M and M-XL) of four-buckle adjustable harnesses.

We rent two types of very durable hard shell climbing helmets.

We rent two types of mid size backpacks that are well suited to day ice climbing missions in the South Fork and other areas in the Cody region.

The Showa Temres 282-02 is a standout ice climbing glove that is warm, waterproof, and affordable.  The fleecy lining of is remarkably warm for how light it feels on your hand.  The drawstring on the new version of the Temres helps seal out moisture while burrowing through deeper powder or getting showered on by a wet ice climb.  And most importantly, the warmth and waterproofness of the glove do not add much bulk, which helps reduce pump and adds enough dexterity for this glove to excel on most grades of ice and all but the hardest pitches of mixed.
